About Us
We are a mixed group of women and men and we sing for sheer enjoyment. The aim of the group is just to enjoy singing once a week with other people who love to sing and have fun.
As we are a friendly crew and we appreciate the time we have each week to catch up and have a chat with other members.
There is no need to read music as the majority of us use ‘words only’ song sheets and there is no need to have any type of singing experience, not even singing in the shower!
We are based in St Mary’s Church in West Bergholt however we are not affiliated to the church and are grateful to the church for allowing us to use their premises.
We have been some making some changes to the choir and one of the more important ones was a change in name. Going forward our new name is Vocal Zone Singers.
Latest News & Events
2025/2026 has been a year of change for the Vocal Zone Singers and, as we start a new term, we are delighted to welcome our new Musical Director, David Thomas Charles. David is a Freelance Musician, Professional Conductor and Musical Director. He brings excellent piano/keys skills to our weekly sessions, which makes them most enjoyable, and he promises to make our singing sessions fun while, at the same time, developing our singing abilities and range.
As we welcomed David, we had to say goodbye to Joanna Arnold, who has steered our ship since last September. Joanna worked hard with us to produce one of our most enjoyable Christmas concerts last year. We wish her the best for the future and thank her for her time with us.
We are still meeting every Tuesday evening during term time at St Mary’s Church in West Bergholt. We arrive at 7pm for a 7.15 start and finish at 8.45. There is a short break during the session when members have a hot drink (everybody brings their own) and some social time.
Everybody is welcome and, as there are no monthly subscriptions, simply come when you can. There is no requirement to be able to read music (or be a great singer), and there is no pressure to sing in concerts, although we would love to see you there. And there are absolutely no auditions!
Singing with other people is great for wellbeing and mental health, so please come along and give us a try.
Free Taster Session
Our group offers a free taster night for potential new members. There is no need for auditions – enthusiasm is far more important! If you do wish to join us after your free taster session it only costs £5 a session.
On arrival you will be welcomed by Bev Allen our new members coordinator.
If you decide to join our group, you will be given a membership form and a welcome pack which contains general information about Vocal Zone Singers, details of the committee, copies of our songs and our constitution.

Rehearsals
Please join us on Tuesday evenings for an evening of song and laughter. We start at 7pm and finish at 8.45pm.
There is no need to book in advance, simply turn up and join in. Everyone (regardless of your ability to sing) is welcome, absolutely no auditions needed!
Your first night is a taster session and is free, it is then a payment of £5.00 each week during term time.
A Vocal Zone Singers session is a friendly, fun and safe environment.

Weekly Sessions
The sessions are lead by Emma Bishton who is an enthusiastic and experienced musical director. Emma leads each session on a keyboard or piano whilst conducting the group……..a lady of many skills!
Each session starts with a warm up, then around an hours singing. We end the evening with song requests!
